About YouTube:
  • Launched 15 February 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim (the three were about 25-27 years old).
  • By July 2006, the site was hosting about 6.1 million videos, with 65,000 new videos per day and 500,000 user accounts.
  • Currently (March 2008) has 72.1 million videos and 2.9 million accounts.  It is the fourth-most trafficked site in the US (behind Google, Yahoo!, and MySpace), and the second-most trafficked site globally (behind only Yahoo!)--(alexa.com).
  • Named Time magazine best invention of the year, 2006


  • YouTube and other video-sharing site users were named Time magazine Person of the Year, 2006.
